Pictured above is Peter Drucker (1909 - 2005). Drucker was a renowned management consultant and author who is often credited with coining the term "knowledge economy." He first discussed the concept in his 1969 book, The Age of Discontinuity: Guidelines to Our Changing Society.
In the book, Drucker argued that the economy was shifting from a focus on manual labor and industrial production to one centered on knowledge, information, and expertise.
In his 2005 book Thinking For A Living, Thomas H. Davenport revealed that Drucker already used the phrase "knowledge worker" back in 1959, emphasizing the growing importance of "knowledge workers", who apply their skills and knowledge to create value.
Drucker further explored the knowledge economy concept in his 1993 book, Post-Capitalist Society, where he described the emergence of a new economic order driven by knowledge, innovation, and intellectual capital.

To begin to understand this, consider this connection…
When Peter Drucker moved to the United States in 1937, one of the first jobs he did was as a freelance journalist for the Washington Post according to information from the archives.
That was some 30 years before Jeff would be born in 1964. Then, in October 2013, Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post that once employed Peter Drucker. What's the connection?
How Peter Drucker’s Thoughts Influenced Jeff Bezos’ Upbringing
Jeff's foster father Miguel Bezos grew up in the 1940s and 1950s United States and was a fan of the Washington Post. One of his best writers on the daily newspaper was Peter Drucker.
That's how Miguel Bezos picked the idea about an emerging economy where the top consideration would be what you know. Here are key points from Drucker's knowledge economy concept that influenced Miguel and which he inculcated into his adopted son Jeff:
1. Shift from industrial to knowledge-based economy
2. Growing importance of knowledge workers
3. Focus on intellectual capital and innovation
4. Need for continuous learning and adaptation
That's why Jeff Bezos started Amazon as a digital book publishing platform. And Miguel Bezos provided the fund ($245,573) that Jeff Bezos used to launch Amazon.com in 1995 according to a 1997 SEC filing discovered by Bloomberg as reported by CNBC.What All Wise Parents Should Learn From This
Peter Drucker made the above prediction some 60 years ago, and it is already being fulfilled. It means that any parent who took Drucker's message to heart in the 1950s and 60s would have raised an adult who is reaping hugely from the economy today.
That's exactly what Miguel Bezos did and the result today is Jeff. Not only that he sponsored his education at Princeton, he pressed it upon him to pursue the kind of knowledge that the economy of the future would need.
Now, in case you don't know, the knowledge economy is just beginning. So, if you want your children to become successful early enough, you'd better find a way to help them love learning from their early lives because this is the only thing that will give them leverage in the future economy.
The first secret towards achieving this is to make learning fun to them from the earliest age. This is the point that will occupy us in the next session.
