NIMC Revelation And How Street-level Nigerians Can Drastically Reduce The Current Spate Of Insecurity In The Country
Nigerians have rightly complained a lot about the high level of insecurity in the country. But, as Benjamin Franklin would say, "instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle". "Well done is better than well said," as the sagacious former US President also said.
As Abraham Lincoln put it in his time, "the best way to predict your future is to create it,". As for C. S. Lewis, "you can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending".
Our own dear Nelson Mandela appeared to crown it all when he said that "the greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall".
Fellow Nigerians, even a deafblind can testify that our situation in this country is extremely dire especially as regards insecurity. People are struggling to eat once a day. Yet, our farmers can't put our arable farmlands to use to grow the food. And, it's as a result of high insecurity levels.
As I pointed out in my recent letter to the Nigerian media concerning our #CallATerroristATerrorist Campaign, the recent beheading of 10 farmers in Niger State was equal to murdering 1 million Nigerians. But, you know what? Complaining about the situation can never change anything in the positive as we just heard from some of the topmost icons that history has to offer.
So, what shall we do? We should transform our complaining energy into action-taking energy. Leadership has failed us so much that we should realize by now that only we can make the leadership work for us.
How Does All This Concern NIMC And Our Quest For A Much More Secure Country?
NIMC's Head of Card Management Services Dr. Peter Iwegbu was reported today as saying that Nigerians will henceforth pay to get about-to-be-introduced national ID card. According to the report, Iwegbu gave 2 reasons why the national identity manager took this decision:
- Because over 2 million national ID cards issued for free in the past were not collected. So, they decided to sell the cards to make more people collect them in future😂
- Because our current Federal Government is struggling with limited revenue. Wow!😳.
NIMC's Role In Nigeria's High Level Of Insecurity Exposed
- How come the banks required all of us to present our BVNs and NINs to be able to own and run bank accounts, yet terrorists are able to successfully navigate the banking system to collect ransoms on their abducted victims?
- Therefore, of what use are these requirements? Are they only meant to make life more difficult for the long-suffering law-abiding citizens?
- Why are transactional crimes ever on the increase in Nigeria and the biggest of the criminals go scot-free when we have a government with full right of access to the bio-data of every citizen?
- Why are Nigerians forced to pay huge ransoms to terrorists via the Nigerian monetary system thereby unwillingly sponsoring terrorism against themselves while the government overseeing our database appears helpless?
- More.

What Then Should Nigerians Do About This?
- Remove every price tag on issuing national ID cards. The reason is because every Nigerian should have a national ID card for the sake of our common security. Selling the cards will not encourage more Nigerians to get them. Instead, it will discourage more Nigerians from getting them. Let the Federal Government use a part of the fund earmarked for counter-terrorism to sponsor the card production and distribution due to how highly important it is for our security as a country.
- During the distribution of the cards, NIMC should use the exact same energy APC used to campaign during the 2023 presidential run to create awareness about the cards and where and how to collect them. Anything less than this shows how little this government cares about Nigerians.
