Do you know this? Most or all Nigerians who still have the data and the strength to complain about "T-pain" online don't have an idea of how serious the situation actually is.
Nigerians are actually dying of hunger and hunger-related issues on a daily basis. They are dying in considerable numbers, silently and poorly covered by the media.
I am in the hinterlands and also online. So, I know what I'm talking about. The worst part is not even what is happening now but what is about to happen.
What I am saying is happening across a wide range of demographics across the country in the hinterlands, the suburbs and even the cities of Nigeria.
I can provide facts and figures with photo and video evidence to any constituted authority, corporate organisation, media house, or an investigative journalist seeking to confirm what I am saying.
Many of those passing through these situations are ashamed to cry out. Here's a real-life story: I and a Catholic priest took a woman to a hospital recently.
The woman looked like a piece of light wood. We got to the first hospital and, while I was trying to take her out of the car, I was almost certain she'd be dead in an hour.
After we left her there, we were still driving back when the hospital called us to come and take her. We took her to another hospital. As the nurses were performing all those stuff, it just occurred to me that the woman's main problem was hunger.
I informed the priest who immediately agreed with me. We got food for her and told the hospital to feed her as and when due until we returned.
Do you know what? The woman left the hospital hale and hearty on her own the next day (she's also a bit mentally unstable, which I also attribute to extreme hardship).
Before I realized that her major problem was hunger, I was 80% certain she was going to die soon due to how very weak she looked. Even the hospital (a missionary hospital) was afraid that she'd die - which is why they called us back.
Believe me, that lady would have died just like that unreported. When we took her to the first hospital, I asked the priest to take her to a teaching hospital and offered to start a fundraiser to raise her bills. But the priest objected to the idea of a fundraiser saying her family would be embarrassed to see it online.
That's a clear real-life example to tell you how silently many more are dying of hunger and people think it's illness in the normal sense of the word. Many Nigerians are dying silently and in shame, when it is our governments that should be ashamed and embarrassed by this very ugly situation.
The point of all these is that I am asking Nigerians to join me in asking our government at all levels to set up soup kitchens in every political ward in the country. Let them treat these soup kitchens with the exact same seriousness they use in canvassing for citizens' votes during electioneering periods.
Let the governments take this more seriously than any other project they consider important. Why? If they don't, they will soon see no one to govern. I repeat, Nigerians are dying of hunger and heart attack due to lack EVERYDAY!!!
Let our governments truly care about their citizens for once. That is the chief and only reason governments exist. Any government that isn't doing this is a LIE by definition.
In countries where the governments are genuinely responsible governments, soup kitchens exist to cater to citizens and residents struggling with food insecurity all because food is an extremely essential daily need. So, let our governments also display this level of responsibility towards her citizenry.
Over the next few days, I'm going to be sharing some inspirations of my own about how to proceed with this to stop politicians from hijacking the #SoupkitcheninsNigeria program.
