Is AI In Line With Your Islamic Faith? Here's What Prof. Musa Aibinu Has To Say

TRANSPARENCY: This is a part of our special effort to promote early and quality adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) tech in Africa. A part of this involves helping Africans to acquire AI skills to make them compliant with the emerging global job market. For example, here's a counterintuitive approach to learning AI skills much more easily.

Now, the report…

With the new rise of artificial intelligence culture, every thoughtful Muslim must have wondered if the use of AI agrees with his or her faith. If you are such a Muslim, you need to pay attention to Professor Musa Aibinu, the Vice Chancellor of Summit University in Offa, Kwara State Nigeria as well as a Mogaji in the Nigerian city of Ibadan.

A professor of mechatronics, Prof. Aibinu was one of the speakers at the recent 32nd Ramadan Lecture of the University of Ibadan Muslim Community held at the university’s central mosque according to a report by the Nation Newspaper.

The academic don is said to have spoken on “the need for urgent Action for a Digital-ready Ummah”. Here are the key points he made based on the report….

  1.  “The pace of technological evolution demands immediate action to ensure that Muslims are not left behind, but rather become active contributors to the digital age while upholding their faith

  2. He “reiterated that the Islamic values and AI can co-exist”. However, he insists on responsible use.

  3. Muslims can ““embrace AI and move ahead without fear of science contradicting their religion

  4. Modernisation is not replacement. “Modernizing madrasah education is not abandoning tradition,” the university boss is quoted to have said. “it is empowering the Ummah with the tools to lead in a technology-driven world. The goal is not to replace religious education but to enhance it with technology. Madrasahs must embrace artificial intelligence and digital transformation to remain relevant. Spiritual and intellectual growth must go hand in hand to prepare Nigerians for the future”.

  5. While Muslim countries like UAE and Malaysia are known to be huge adopters of the AI tech, Nigerian Muslims must not lag behind.

  6. To ensure that AI is used in line with Islamic ethics, Prof. Musa Aibinu recommends that both Islamic scholars and students should be exposed to AI awareness. Thus, the Muslim Ummah should “introduce Artificial Intelligence and digital literacy programs alongside Islamic studies

As a result, he had very few friends - no more than two per time. As related in the archives , young Bill was a recluse who spent hours cocooned in his room. Once, during such a social withdrawal, his mom asked after him over the intercom, and Bill shouted back, “ I'm thinking… Have you ever tried thinking? ” The fact is: Young Bill Gates didn't have many friends. Unknown to him, many of his peers snubbed him because a rumor spread around town that “ Bill is the weirdest guy that God ever made ”. As acknowledged by Washington Post's Mark Leibovich, the real issue was that the boy Bill Gates III was an infant prodigy. As a result, he just couldn't get along with most of his peers and vice versa. But, it hardly became an issue to him because his attention was essentially somewhere else....

In the book, Drucker argued that the economy was shifting from a focus on manual labor and industrial production to one centered on knowledge, information, and expertise.  In his 2005 book  Thinking For A Living , Thomas H. Davenport revealed that Drucker already used the phrase " knowledge work...
